Each year at this time, we commemorate the tragedy of the Holocaust, and also the internal strength of those who resisted and fought against the Nazis. In fact, the official name for the day, selected by the Knesset in 1951, is
Yom HaZikaron La'Sho'ah v'La-Gevurah, the Day of Remembrance for the Holocaust and the Heroism.
Throughout our day at Mirowitz, you could hear young voices singing Hannah Senesh's poem
Eli Eli as students came down to light six candles representing the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust.
Our youngest students learned from Rabbi Susan Talve and Rabbi Jim Goodman about a Torah that was saved from the Holocaust, and middle school students spent the afternoon at the new Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum. They heard voices from the past and discussed how they can influence us to use our voices to create a better future.
Our 8th graders experienced a pinnacle moment in their day school education...hearing the siren in Israel. They learned about the righteous gentiles who rescued Jews, and the integrity of those Jews who fought against the Nazis in ways both quiet and vocal. (The photo below is at Oskar Schindler's grave.)
Our approach to this important day is to prepare your children to be teens who are committed to moral decision-making. We want them to feel a responsibility toward combating bias and hate. We are raising each one of them to be leaders who preserve justice, quietly and loudly.

Today was our first full day in Israel. After breakfast, we headed to the Haas Promenade for Tefillah with a view of the Old City of Jerusalem. Afterwards, our tour guide talked about the siren that sounds on Yom HaShoah, and then we got to hear it for ourselves. It was an experience I can’t ever put into words. There is a sense of calm and respect that is felt throughout the entire country. — Shauni
We started with morning services at Ezrat Yisrael, an egalitarian prayer plaza at the Kotel. We then explored the Western Wall Tunnels and then went to the Kotel. This was such an impactful experience, and touching the wall was such a cool and special moment for me. — Leah
Ever wonder what barriers keep Jewish children from attending Jewish day school? Watch this video to find out!
Mirowitz’s Raise Your Yad Campaign is designed to break down the barriers of entry to a Jewish day school education. We are creating an endowment that will ensure an enduring ability to provide financial assistance, and to offer support services — speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, academic support, gifted services and counseling — so we can meet the needs of diverse learners.
Already, more than 75 familieshave collectively donated more than $4.71 million. We need your help to cross the finish line.
Ambassadors amplify our efforts by spreading the word to family and friends via email, social media or phone. We will provide you with everything you need to be successful. All you need to do is reach out to your network. In less than 5 minutes, you can exponentially help broaden our reach and make an impact on our total fundraising goal.
Mirowitz 4th graders have spent the last 36 hours together at Shaw Nature Reserve...gaining a more intimate understanding of woodland, aquatic and prairie ecosystems; creating art from nature, and learning about insect ecology. They returned tired, but with strengthened bonds and memories that will last a lifetime.

Caught these sweet moments this week. (At what other school can children grow up feeling such love?)
We loved welcoming so many grandparents (in person and over Zoom) Monday! Special thanks to Betsy Rubenstein and Randy Garland for chairing the event, and to Roberta Scharf for leading an inspiring workshop on imparting wisdom to grandchildren.

As an alum and current board member, I am honored to participate in Raise Your Yad. I know first hand that the values and ethics taught to Mirowitz students impact the adults they will become.”

Our Parent In Heaven, Rock and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the start of the flowering of our redemption. Shield it with Your love. Spread over it the shelter of Your peace, Guide its leaders and advisors with Your light and Your truth. Establish for them Your good counsel. Strengthen the hands of the defenders of our Holy Land. Cause them to inherit, our God, deliverance. Place the crown of victory upon them. Give the land peace and everlasting joy to its inhabitants.
