We really love Chanukah Tamchui! Each year, Mirowitz families are encouraged to give up a night of Chanukah gifts and to contribute what we would have spent to a group Tzedakah jar! Then we learn about 5 charitable organizations, and the kids at Mirowitz get to vote on how to allocate our group collection.
This year, our class chose the organizations, each representing a different category: the environment, health, the Jewish community, education and poverty.
It felt like an important responsibility, and allowed us to think about causes that are meaningful to us and our school community. We even created videos to inspire other kids to support each organization. We voted with our tokens before vacation, and this week was tamchui math week!
Kindergarten and first grade students counted the tokens in each jar. They did so by grouping the tokens and counting by 10s. Together, they counted 1,085 tokens!
Second and thrid graders counded the coins, cash, checks and Venmo you contributed, and added them together! In total, our collection raised $1,201.17.
Fourth graders determined the value of each token, and how much each organization would receive.
It's cool to grow up at a school that gives us an opportunity to think about important things. We know that Chanukah is not just about getting things, about rededicating ourselves to our religion and our values. Thanks to everyone who contributed to our Tamchui, and to all of the kids at Mirowitz who voted with their tokens. |

Every year, on the anniversary of the death of our namesake Saul Mirowitz, Mirowitz students write a service in his memory. Their service Tuesday was filled with gratitude and honor.
Two of Saul's great-grandchildren, 4th graders Laya and Davin, shared a story about their Pawpaw. |
They shared that Saul's family escaped from Germany in 1938. When he arrived, Saul was teased because he did not speak English. Even so, he spent his life giving back by supporting charities, serving in the Navy, and by starting Mirowitz! Here is an excerpt: |

We learn at Mirowitz that when someone is different, it is interesting!...Our teachers encourage us to have an opinion even if it is different from theirs. We feel comfortable being ourselves at Mirowitz.
Today, we get to enjoy the vision our Pawpaw had for this school. We wish he could see us here doing all the things he wished for so long! Thank you Pawpaw for not only giving us a wonderful education, but also a place we can call home. We are making lifelong friendships and are learning how to succeed in life. We have so much to be thankful for, but today, we are thankful for you, Pawpaw! |

Middle School basketball traveled across the street to play Whitfield earlier this week. Noam, Max and Evan each tallied 4 points, but the boys lost their game 29-17. The team falls to 1-4 on the season.
The girls also dropped their game 42-15. Hallel led the way with 8 points, and Abby added 7. The girls record slips to 1-2 on the season. |
Next up for both teams, a road game on Tuesday at River of Life Christian School. It will be the first matchup between our two schools.
Many of our elementary teams start league play this Sunday. Our Kindergarten, 2nd grade boys, 3rd grade girls and 3rd/4th grade boys all tip off on Sunday. |

We have quite a delightful group of Mirowitz siblings starting kindergarten in the fall, and space for about 15 new families! If you know someone who wants the very best for their children, let Patty know! |

Our Parent In Heaven, Rock and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the start of the flowering of our redemption. Shield it with Your love. Spread over it the shelter of Your peace, Guide its leaders and advisors with Your light and Your truth. Establish for them Your good counsel. Strengthen the hands of the defenders of our Holy Land. Cause them to inherit, our God, deliverance. Place the crown of victory upon them. Give the land peace and everlasting joy to its inhabitants. |
