What memories stand out from your years in elementary school? The cafeteria food? Recess? Getting caught chewing gum in class?

We asked a few of our students about Mirowitz moments they will always remember. Here are the answers they gave:

pbloom@mirowitz.org

Dan: I'll never forget the 3rd grade overnight in the prairie. We learned about medicinal properties of prairie plants, went on a night hike and got to bunk with our friends!

Maya: We did this team building exercise called a Leap of Faith. I had to trust that my classmates would catch me. I have known my classmates for a long time and know that they care about me, so having trust in them was easy .

Orli: Our Hunger and Poverty trip impacted me in so many ways. I learned what poverty looks like in different parts of the world. That made me think about my role in reducing food scarcity. Our class is excited to volunteer at the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry after winter vacation.

Nathan: How can I choose? I make memories all the time here! Just a few days ago, we did a World War I trench warfare simulation. We learned how pointless that tactic was, and it only succeeded to wittle down the other side's forces. Nobody can truly win in trench warfare.

Noam: Last year we went on an environment trip and not only learned about sustainability, but got a birds eye view of the land below. It was fun, of course, but it also inspired us to take better care of the earth. We came home and built a raised bed garden for the school.

Gabriel: I love sports, and especially playing them with my friends and representing Mirowitz at other schools.

Mirowitz teachers purposefully plan for learning moments that will become treasured life-long memories. We infuse childhood with Jewish milestones like Simchat Gan, Simchat Siddur, chanting Torah and visiting Israel. We plant butterfly gardens, restore prairies, nurture chickens, sustain ponds and grow vegetables, immersing our students in the world beyond the classroom.

It is our hope that when your children are Mirowitz alumni, they will look back on their childhoods with joy. We hope they will recall profound moments that are connected with learning, with Judaism and community. We hope they will continue to find that learning is satisfying and inspiring, and that the memories they made here have shaped them into the best version of themselves.

After all, our childhood memories have the potential to make us who we are.

Have a memory-making and joyful winter vacation! We'll see you January 2.

A great game, but a close loss for our middle school boys basketball team.  A 3-point shot at the buzzer hit off the rim, and the boys fell to New Life Christian Academy 40-37.

Corey led the team with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Max had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. The team falls to 1-3 on the season. Next up, the boys and middle school girls teams are on the road for a January 4 game at Whitfield.

Our elementary teams are gearing up to start their seasons.  Kindergarten, 2nd-grade boys, 3rd-grade girls and 3rd/4th-grade boys tip off on January 8. Our 1st graders begin play on January 15.  Uniforms will go home the week we return from break.

Two things you can do on MLK Day (January 17):

1. Volunteer with your big kid: We would like to have 20+ tweens and teens helping us as magnet makers, actors, crafters and tattoo artists. Does your big kid want to help? Let us know

2. Come play! If you have a pre-schooler, we hope you'll join us and invite all of your friends to come, too!

Free book from PJ Library for the first 75 families who RSVP here!

Thank you to the 75 parents who have shared your opinions with us about Mirowitz and the experiences your family is having this year.

We take your feedback very seriously,
and use it to guide both our day-to-day operations and our longer-term strategic planning as we strive for excellence.

We hope you, too, will use your voice to make our community better. If you have not yet completed the survey, we hope you will take fifteen minutes to do so. To ensure that everyone has a chance to complete the survey, we will keep it open until the end of the year. We are studying every survey, and would like to begin next semester having processed your feedback so we can rededicate ourselves to the commitments we have made to each of you.  Contact Mary if you have any questions.
In order to give returning students and their siblings priority in the process, the deadline for completing your application for financial aid is January 15.  Applications received after that date will not be included in the initial tuition assistance distribution, and will be considered along with new families who apply by January 31. (See more about how to apply here.)

To be considered, you must submit a financial statement form online

If you have additional questions, read answers to Frequently Asked Questions or contact Mary.

We may not see you the last two weeks of the calendar year, but our fundraising efforts do not take a break!

You should have received some Greetings from Mirowitz this week...our annual appeal and an opportunity to make a year-end contribution to your favorite school. We hope you will consider a year-end gift to your child's school. Your contribution allows us to stay on the forefront of educational practice, to remain financially accessible to a diversity of families, and helps us attract quality teachers for your children.

We toured several schools for our daughter and Mirowitz stood out for many reasons. First, it clearly felt like home. My husband and I could feel not only the love for learning and Judaism but also for one another. We knew right away that it was the school for our family.

Our Parent In Heaven, Rock and Redeemer of Israel, bless the State of Israel, the start of the flowering of our redemption. Shield it with Your love. Spread over it the shelter of Your peace, Guide its leaders and advisors with Your light and Your truth.  Establish for them Your good counsel.  Strengthen the hands of the defenders of our Holy Land.  Cause them to inherit, our God, deliverance. Place the crown of victory upon them.  Give the land peace and everlasting joy to its inhabitants.
